Dental Implants

How dental implants replace one, several, or all teeth in the smile

For the smile to function properly, it is vital that any missing teeth within the smile are replaced as soon as possible. Flower Mound, Texas, area patients have a wide selection of tooth replacement options to choose from, but Dr. Yasi Sabour and her team at The Dental Studio may highly recommend replacing teeth with dental implants. Dental implants continue to be a reliable and highly desirable way of replacing one, a few, or all the teeth in the smile. Thanks to their versatility, they are a popular solution for our patients faced with missing teeth.

What is a dental implant?

Dr. Sabour describes the dental implant as a tooth root replacement. The restoration is made with titanium metal compatible with the human body. The small screw-like device is placed into the bone of the jaw to stimulate the growth of bone through a process known as osseointegration. Osseointegration allows the bone around the implant to grow and hold the implant firmly in the jaw. Once the implant is firmly attached to the natural bone, patients can use various restorations over the implant abutments to restore the function of their smile. Dental implants can be covered with the following:

  • Dental crowns. A dental crown over the abutment of a dental implant allows a patient to replace a single tooth with ease.
  • Dental bridges. If adjacent teeth are not available to anchor a dental bridge in place, patients might consider an implant on one or both sides to place a fixed bridge.
  • Dentures. Dental implants are also used for anchoring dentures in place, restoring the entire smile when all the teeth in the dental arch are lost or extracted.
